Mirek Painting is the best home improvement company I have ever used. Mirek is an excellent manager. He has worked for me over the past 15 years, to take care of the maintenance and improvement of my home. He has had essentially the same, skilled crew for the entire time. I trust this team implicitly. His rates are competitive, he is so reliable with the regards to showing up when he says he will, putting in very full days of work and leaving the area spotless when the crew is done. Quick story...Mirek's team completed a three day job at my home yesterday....today, Mirek came to nape the the work...I told him how pleased I was, but he found a. Few things that I wouldn't have even complained about, a loose threshold for example, and he said t me..."we will be back tomorrow to fix these things". WHO DOES THAT these days? I have no reservations recommending Mirek PAintng!!!
You'll certainly want to ask them this. Steer clear of any company that is not insured in Connecticut, because that means that any incidental damage they may do on your property will be a real hassle to recover compensation for. It is never wise to work with uninsured tradesmen of any kind. Most states also require that someone have insurance in order to be issued a trade license. If they say they're licensed but not insured, they're being less than truthful.
This really only matters if you have a preference, but it is good to ask. If you have a strong ideological belief about unions or nonunions, it's perfectly acceptable to make a decision based on the preference.
This will be answered when you ask if all employees are licensed. The only way to obtain a legitimate tradesman's license is to be a legal or naturalized citizen of the US. The company may employ people in positions that don't require a license, however, so it's wise to inquire.
Some companies may require a 10% deposit, some may not require any. For larger projects, you'll almost always need to give a deposit, and it's good to ask how much the deposit will be before going forward with a project. The Cromwell contractor will know how much they need for a deposit when they've given you the estimate, so ask early.
Many jobs in Connecticut will require municipal permits in order to be approved by the town's inspector. It's always good to ask who will be responsible for pulling those permits, and if you'll be expected to do it. You'll almost never be told to pull your own, but knowing that Cromwell Painting permits are required makes you appear to be a well informed customer.
