About this pro

Tim Feuz, the owner of MetFab Heating, started as a sheet-metal worker back in the early 1970s. In October 1981, he ventured out on his own and started MetFab Heating. He incorporated and moved the business to its current location in 1987. In 1993, a major remodel increased the facilities to 9000 square feet including a full sheet metal shop, warehouse, and show room. Tim still manages overall operation of his company and even crafts some challenging sheet metal fittings from time to time.

Best Questions to Ask a Heating Contractor Contractor

Do you hire properly documented Heating workers?

This will be answered when you ask if all employees are licensed. The only way to obtain a legitimate tradesman's license is to be a legal or naturalized citizen of the US. The company may employ people in positions that don't require a license, however, so it's wise to inquire.

How much do I have to give as a deposit?

Some companies may require a 10% deposit, some may not require any. For larger projects, you'll almost always need to give a deposit, and it's good to ask how much the deposit will be before going forward with a project. The Vancouver contractor will know how much they need for a deposit when they've given you the estimate, so ask early.

Do you have any references that I can contact?

Always ask for references, and always check them. Keep in mind though that the only references you'll get are people who the contractor is certain will give him a good review. You'd also be well advised to check online review sources in Vancouver as well, which will give you a broader view of customer satisfaction for a given company.

Does the Heating job require permits? If so, will you be pulling them yourself?

Many jobs in Washington will require municipal permits in order to be approved by the town's inspector. It's always good to ask who will be responsible for pulling those permits, and if you'll be expected to do it. You'll almost never be told to pull your own, but knowing that Vancouver Heating permits are required makes you appear to be a well informed customer.

How long have you been in Heating business for/How long have been serving the Vancouver area?

You'll always want to ask how long the company has been in business in Vancouver. While this isn't a guarantee that the company will do good work, companies with longevity on their side must be doing something right. That being said, there are newer companies that do great work. If the company is under three years old, ask where the owner was employed before and for how long. If he/she has a long history of employment, it's reasonable to infer that he or she decided to go into business for themselves after so many years of experience.
