Kent is a godsend. Having been a realtor I knew a few things about home maintenance and improvement. However, living on my own for the first time and now being partially handicapped, I found there were many things I couldn’t do myself for my antique former schoolhouse. Enter Kent. I quickly saw what a gem Kent is. He is highly experienced and willing, both speedy and meticulous, punctual, responsive, and extremely personable. I consider him a craftsman (I love watching him work) and yet he’s very affordable! I hope to have Kent in my corner for many years.

Best Questions to Ask a Carpenter Contractor

What guarantees and/or warranties can you give me? Are you a warranty agent for any brands?

These first two questions should only relate to services or good purchased directly from the service provider. Many products carry their own warranties, like roofing shingles or siding. It's useful to know what these warranties cover as well as how long they last. The "warranty agent" question is important, because often warranty agents work with the manufacturer to get you repairs under warranty at a much lower price.

Does the Carpentry job require permits? If so, will you be pulling them yourself?

Many jobs in New Hampshire will require municipal permits in order to be approved by the town's inspector. It's always good to ask who will be responsible for pulling those permits, and if you'll be expected to do it. You'll almost never be told to pull your own, but knowing that East Hampstead Carpentry permits are required makes you appear to be a well informed customer.

What is your projected timeline for the Carpentry project in East Hampstead?

Though a standard question, it's important to ask. Most contractors will tell you how long they expect the job to take without you asking. If they don't volunteer that information, be sure to ask. It's also helpful to ask if that's a hard finish date, meaning that it's the definite finish date. If it's a soft finish date, it may be extended for any number of reasons.

Are you union or non-union?

This really only matters if you have a preference, but it is good to ask. If you have a strong ideological belief about unions or nonunions, it's perfectly acceptable to make a decision based on the preference.
