Fast, courteous, reasonable price, attention to detail—definitely recommend: Bob and his crew were so fast! They did a one-time clean-up of our front and back yards. Bob was originally scheduled to give me a free estimate one afternoon, but one of his jobs was running overtime. So he had the courtesy to call me to let me know and to set up another time the very next morning. He came when he said he would and even had his staff come to do the work that very same afternoon, as soon as they had finished their other jobs (so some staff came at one time, joined by Bob and another staff member a bit later). They whipped right through the work and whacked our weeds and foxtails and bermuda grass down to nothing in no time flat. (But be sure to do a walkthrough of your yard if your plants cannot be seen through the grass, to make sure the plants are not whacked down.) They even blew out the leaves from my side yard, even though I had not asked them to do it. And they asked me exactly where I wanted our trampoline put back (they had to move it around to clean under it, which they did without complaint) and put it exactly where I wanted it, with the trampoline entrance pointed in the correct direction. Bob even offered to take some dirt, etc. to the dump for me for a reasonable price. I am so pleased with their work. I hope to be able to hire them again.
This will be answered when you ask if all employees are licensed. The only way to obtain a legitimate tradesman's license is to be a legal or naturalized citizen of the US. The company may employ people in positions that don't require a license, however, so it's wise to inquire.
The question is great for some industries and non-applicable for others. A general contractor, for example, will by definition employ subcontractors. Most Woodland Landscaping companies do not, but there are exceptions. You should always ask this question to your service providers. If they do use subcontractors, ask if they're all licensed and insured independently.
Some companies may require a 10% deposit, some may not require any. For larger projects, you'll almost always need to give a deposit, and it's good to ask how much the deposit will be before going forward with a project. The Woodland contractor will know how much they need for a deposit when they've given you the estimate, so ask early.
This is important mostly for larger jobs. Clearly a two man operation is going to build a home much slower than a 15 man crew. This is also a good indication of the overall size of the Landscaping company, if that's an area of concern for you. The reason you may want to ask about the fleet is that fleet size is a good indicator of the mobility of the company. Mobility may not sound important, but it's hard for the Woodland contractors to get to job sites if they lack appropriate vehicles.
