Can you believe it’s the same kitchen? This amazing transformation featured on One Kings Lane is incredible and it was done in a very affordable way. The space was small and dark, but after the makeover it feels bigger, lighter, more efficient, and definitely gorgeous. The transformation was done without any furniture change or major remodeling: just some coats of paint on the walls and cabinets, the doors on the upper cabinets removed, and some brushed brass hardware added. And to finish, the use of a mirror as backsplash is a creative and inexpensive solution that adds an illusion effect making the space appear bigger and more modern.
Clever Renovation
Creativity is the key to spending less. The solutions that Mandi Johnson from A Beautiful Mess came up with to remodel her kitchen are beyond creative; they’re so clever that it’s impossible to not be impressed. Instead of replacing the cabinets, she decided to re-hang half of them higher, paint them white, and add open shelving below them and on either side. The walls were painted white, the bottom cabinets black, and a plank backsplash and a budget-friendly butcher block countertop were added. The walls and cabinets were painted bright white, the header was reworked, a modern light fixture added, the doors on one cabinet were removed and the interior was painted black to make the dishes pop. The dated linoleum floor was stripped to reveal the original hardwood floors underneath, and even the adjoining dining room got a makeover. It’s amazing what creativity (and paint!) can do to a room!
