AJ Outdoor specialists and Al the owner are not accountable or responsible for damage they cause. After a neighbor contracted them to remove a tree and upon leaving their job, they drive into my property and backed into a retaining wall, trashed flower beds and left. Al, and his team drove off, did not alert my neighbor who contracted them, or even knock in my door. If not for the fortitude of the Washington County Sherrifs office and security footage, I would have been left without recourse. The Sheriff contacted Al (who admitted fault) saying “my guy said he didn’t think he hit is that hard.” Then proceed to misrepresent what both his statements and the actual video surveillance shows to his insurance provider. Estimates to repair the damage are between $2,500 to $3,800. If anyone is looking for services- my opinion would be to hit up Advanced Lawn Care, WI tree service or ANYONE else. If you do happen to work with AJ outdoor, make sure you get a copy of his insurance and have cameras running.
You'll certainly want to ask them this. Steer clear of any company that is not insured in Wisconsin, because that means that any incidental damage they may do on your property will be a real hassle to recover compensation for. It is never wise to work with uninsured tradesmen of any kind. Most states also require that someone have insurance in order to be issued a trade license. If they say they're licensed but not insured, they're being less than truthful.
This really only matters if you have a preference, but it is good to ask. If you have a strong ideological belief about unions or nonunions, it's perfectly acceptable to make a decision based on the preference.
Some companies may require a 10% deposit, some may not require any. For larger projects, you'll almost always need to give a deposit, and it's good to ask how much the deposit will be before going forward with a project. The Slinger contractor will know how much they need for a deposit when they've given you the estimate, so ask early.
This will be answered when you ask if all employees are licensed. The only way to obtain a legitimate tradesman's license is to be a legal or naturalized citizen of the US. The company may employ people in positions that don't require a license, however, so it's wise to inquire.
These first two questions should only relate to services or good purchased directly from the service provider. Many products carry their own warranties, like roofing shingles or siding. It's useful to know what these warranties cover as well as how long they last. The "warranty agent" question is important, because often warranty agents work with the manufacturer to get you repairs under warranty at a much lower price.
